Richard SYDES arrived in Port Jackson per the "Ganges" in June 1797 having been tried at Warwick in 1794 and sentenced to 14 years transportation (from an entry for Richard Sides on Lesley Uebel's page at http://users.bigpond.net.au/convicts/page76.html and other sources). His age was reported as 18 years old and so he would have been born ~1776.
Richard appears in the Norfolk Island victualling lists for 1800-1802.
Around 1802/3 Richard began a relationship with Ann WHITE and they had 4-5 children from 1804 to 1815. On 14 Mar 1814 they were formally married at St John's Church in Launceston (certified copy of marriage certificate).
The family moved from Norfolk Island to northern Tasmania in 1813, arriving on 20 Jan 1813 and settling at Norfolk Plains.
Her eldest daughter Mary Ann Sydes was born on Norfolk Island on 3 Oct 1804 and married George COLLINS on 8 Jul 1822 at Launceston.
Richard SYDES died 1844 in ?Hobart.
