Maria CLEMENTS married William TUDGEY on 24 Dec 1850 at St Peter's Church of England, Melbourne (Victorian marriage certificate).
According to Maria's death certificate (Victorian death certificate 1894, informant daughter Hannah) she was 62 years old and had been in Victoria 48 years. This would place her birth ~1832 and arrival in Victoria ~1846 at age 14. It is reasonable to suppose that she was therefore accompanied by her parents and they are listed on the certificate as Thomas Clements and Sarah Clements m.n. Stone.
As yet I have not found her or her parents on a passenger list.
The Victoria BDM index lists 3 Sarah Clements, only one of whom is a suitable age to have been Maria's mother.
Sarah's death certificate (Victorian death certificate 1862, #8959, informant Thomas Clements) gives date of death 7 Nov 1862, age 48 years old and had been in Victoria 13 years. This would place her birth ~1814 and arrival in Victoria ~1849 at age 35. Her parents are listed as Benjamin HODGE, labourer and Sarah HODGE and place of birth as Devizes, Wiltshire. It also states she was married to Thomas Clements at Milton, Wiltshire and had been married 19 years (placing the marriage date at 1843). I believe this is an error and that the time married should in fact be 29 years.
Searching in the Wiltshire parish registers for Milton Lilbourne, I found a Maria Clements baptised 20 Oct 1833 and the marriage of Thomas Clements of Pewsey and Sarah Hodges of Milton on 22 Apr 1833.
Further searching uncovered the baptism of Sarah Hodge daughter of Sarah and Benjamin STONE on 31 Mar 1828. It would appear that she was baptised at about 14 years of age and that her parents were not married (certainly there was no record of a marriage in the Milton register, or baptism entries for her mother Sarah Hodge or for Benjamin Stone). Likewise, I could not find any record of Thomas Clements b ~1800 in the Pewsey register however there were a number of earlier Clements entries.
